Lo scopo ultimo della predicazione di s. Antonio è di ricondurre l’uomo a Dio. Cristo è il mediatore di questa opera. L’evento cristologico è centrale nei sermoni antoniani, nell’interpretazione biblica e nella condotta che ne deriva. Il pensiero antoniano segue la tradizionale interpretazione biblica dei Padri della Chiesa e della teologia monastica, evidenziando la teoria cristologia del Logos. Se Cristo è invisibile nel primo Testamento, grazie all’incarnazione la sua visibilità è evidente nel Nuovo Testamento. Tutto assume un significato tipologico. Ad esempio il tradimento di Pietro sta a significare il tradimento di ogni peccatore. Gli insegnamenti che si possono trarre dalla Bibbia diventano parole di vita. Lo stesso amore che Gesù ha manifestato nei confronti di Pietro, continua ad essere presente, nel tempo, nella vita dei cristiani. E questo amore rende l’uomo una nuova creatura, salvato da Gesù Cristo.

The aim of St.Anthony is "the bringing back of man to the God". Christ stands in the center of this. We consider this Christ-centralism of St.Anthony by the two aspects; (1)The interpretation of the Bible by St.Anthony. (2)Living on the words of the Bible. St.Anthony obeys the traditional interpretation of the Bible from the Church Fathers and the monastic-theologians. In this interpretational method, on the places that man cannot grasp literally, man interprets them by the Logos-Christ theory. Man sees the same Christ in the two Testaments. Christ is invisible in the Old Testament, but in the New Testament Christ is visible by the Incarnation. Christ has the humanity and the divinity. The events that occurred in the past, according to the divinity of Christ, have the universality. That is, the events of the Bible have to do with us by the divinity of Christ. For example, Peter who betrayed Christ is the model of us, the sinners. By reliving the events of the Bible, the words of the Bible become the living words. Like Peter who was moved by the love of Christ, also we receive that love and we can stand up from our sin and walk in the way of the salvation. The love of God itself helps us to walk and we can get this by the contemplation. And this love makes the new creation in the men. The new-created men love God and the neighbor by uniting to Christ. This salvation can be realized by imitating Christ.
